Well perhaps it is not pointed desert boots that you desire at all, but 
rather Chisel-toed. I hope so. Because winkle-picking desert boots are a 
deeply unattractive concept. And redundant too, how might one pick winkles 
in the desert?

However, facetious commentary aside, chukka boots are more or less a more 
shapely, less rounded version of the classic desert boot, with a proper heel 
rather than crepe. Well made and usually expensive but they'll last. Mine 
are Churchs. Can be purchased from high-end old geezer stores in the UK and 
probably same, if a little more obscure/higher priced in U.S.

Just find a town with a lot of rich old horsey people and look for the  shop 
that furnishes gentlemen's requisites.
