I know I'm better than everyone else on the list so I don't care WHAT
you say about me...
I may not buy much soul - but I spend money going out dancing a lot - so
I've heard a fair bit of soul.
For the price of one record you can go out dancing numerous times and
hear many more songs.
You see what I mean?
Also - I have actually *seen* these creatures known as 'northern
soulies' cos - as mentioned - I've crept into a couple of all-nighters -
so I'm not talking COMPLETELY from stereo-types... (!!!)
Anyway - as to record buying - I'm after RnB/jazz more than soul - cos
it's (on the whole) better (certainly than a lot of Northern anyway)!
I'm currently really diggin' Sonny Boy (no 1), Billie Holiday, Ethel
Waters, John Lee Hooker, Ray Charles, Mose Allison, and of course Bo
Diddley..
As to America!!
......... Nothing you can say will ever convince me that 'white American
culture' deserves any merit whatsoever. Actions speak louder than words.
The 'I wanna be English' Americans are the funniest of the lot..... I'm
always meeting American 'mods' who tell me how much they hate America
and how much nicer it is to be in London..........
They make an attempt to absorb these English things - but it's so sad!!
You see all these Americans trying to 'dress up' as mods... it's
hilarious!!!!!!! Saw one just last night! Fitted the stereotype so
perfectly!
Of course I'm not saying that theoretically Americans can't be mods -
but I haven't actually met any yet!
Addio!
Paul
