Also I'd like to add something.... I think a modernist is someone who has this obsession and recognises it. A modernist will never be satisfied (I can't get no girl-y action...? - no not like THAT!) I am my biggest critic - you know that?! But also my biggest fan... I KNOW that I have lots more life/art to discover/experience - I KNOW I don't have the smartest possible clothes. That's where the 'new' element comes in maybe? Not getting stuck in a nook - I mean - how can you be a modernist in my sense of freedom and adventure and then decide you've got it all and you'll be happy just listening to the Jam and moaning about 'the good old days' or something - SURE! You can never DISCARD true art - how can you? I'll always love espresso - I'll never discard it for something new - same with Mose Allison's LPs - though I can find MORE to experience................ I mean you have to get your kicks (on Route 66?) That's why Gentleman I boldly claim to be a modernist. (Not an 'ace face' - just a modernist - pure and easy - simple as that) Mods are mods and squares are square - oldsters, conscripts and mugs - that's not for me! I repeat my sentiments expressed on this very forum many a month past - it's about ATTITUDE. There you go. That's why I don't go for the 'I used to be a mod' brigade - Lots of silly young things fall into THAT camp (Elizabeth?) Man - no one seems to understand it - you get it or you don't - as I've explained really - you just can't explain (why that ..... feeling is here in my brain...) Some people are sorted - and other's are not. But I respect everyone - EVERYONE - but I think we scare the 'non-modernists' But listen: I'm glad to have got some of these jumbled thoughts out of me barnet - and I'm reassured by Julian's 'it made some sense' comment. I'll leave it there folks - take care - and keep on keeping on....
