Hey, I'm a science major or something and don't really know about art, but I
remember something from a humanities class about modernism in art being the
whole after cubism, de stijl type stuff in the middle 20th century:
Malevich, ect.?

yes, yes... your textbook never lies... nor would it simplify anything for
the sake of science majors... and since you took that humanities class one
feels confident in you ability to moderate the discourse of 20th century
art. in such complex issues as Modernity, there are no absolutes. if we
had the concrete answers, what the fuck would intellectuals and academics do
with their time... what would be the fun of learning. they toss those easy
classifications in the laps of the feeble minded so they need not attempt to
comprehend the complexity of our modern life
