Yes, `make certificate' is a pure source tree only solution.  with a few
manual adjustments the src/support/mkcert.sh can be used outside the Apache
source tree, but this is currently not supported.

Ops, yes. We should add this to the FAQ as well. Thanks for the hint again.
OTOH the default DN fields provided by `make certificate TYPE=custom' are
already different, but who knows what users actually enter...
