I think the stuff isn't really related to mod_ssl. Instead I guess you've
different SSLeay and/or Apache versions, etc.  and some of these differences
cause your trouble. Because I cannot see such an extended memory consumption
on my RedHat boxes and I'm also not aware that any code changes would have
resulted in such a different memory consumption. So, they question is: Can you
be sure that you're using exactly the same parts (Apache, Frontpage, etc.)?  I
think no. So it gets hard to find out which part causes the trouble...
