And somewhat inaccurate:
a) Apache-SSL does have documentation, and did at the time of the split,
albeit in the form of an annotated configuration file.
b) whether mod_ssl's code is "cleaner" than Apache-SSL's code is in the
eye of the beholder. There's certainly a lot more of it, and it is
rather more convoluted.
c) EAPI doesn't really remove the need to patch, it just means it isn't
so apparent that the patches are there to support SSL.
d) Apache-SSL supports DSOs. The fact that you have SSL support whether
you need it or not does not seem particularly interesting to me.
e) Apache-SSL can be applied using FixPatch, in a single step, no
fiddling is required. It also works with APACI.
f) Apache-SSL had a dedicated SSL log file, which I removed. I don't
think that spreading logging about the place is useful.
g) The stuff about passphrases is no different to Apache-SSL, except I
don't allow external utilities to supply passphrases (this seems to me
to be a completely futile exercise).
h) replacing gcache with DBM seems a backward step to me.
Also, I notice that parts of that FAQ were written by me, yet strangely
there is no credit, despite the immense fuss Ralph made about getting
credit on a page we wrote that a prototype for was based on a page of
his.
Cheers,
Ben.
