When you did "make certificate", did you use a TYPE? I think the default
is "TYPE=test" which older versions of IE didn't like (i haven't tried
IE 5). Maybe

make certificate TYPE=custom

will work better. This is kind of hinted at in a couple of places in the
documentation.
