Either your gzip is broken or (what I think is more true) you downloaded
incorrectly. Perhaps via FTP but without Binary mode or via HTTP and your
client messed up the data. Or you used a proxy which had a broken version
cached. I've tried it to unpack directly on the webserver and on a RedHat 5.2
box and it worked fine. So it's a local problem for you.
