In case anyone else has the same problem, I fixed it by changing:
./config rsaref
to
./config -d rsaref
And, since I was re-install apache, I had to combine httpd.conf w/
httpd.conf.default to get https to work...
I know it's in the manual, but it took me a while to find ;)
