 Thanks for being there (grin) I just compiled it. In my post I mentioned I tried both 
pgcc and
egcs? I realized I hadn't assured that egcs had made the entire run. The no-asm _was_ 
needed,
But I also had to drop optimization a notch, and change CC to match egcs, right from 
the start.

 Now I've got openssl going. Next step appears to be mod_ssl, which I'll probably try 
to build
in W/apache directly...Since I've posted anyway, who has some insight with pgcc and 
it's -m686
-O6 flags on secure apache?
