hello,
I have installed:

   Apache/1.3.11 (Unix) FrontPage/4.0.4.3 AuthMySQL/2.20
                 PHP/3.0.14 mod_ssl/2.5.0 OpenSSL/0.9.4

on a Solaris 7 server. The self signed certificate was generated
using:

   make certificate TYPE=custom

and it works perfectly with Netscape --- the New Site Certificate
pops up giving me the option to accept this certificate until it
expires. The next time I visit my site, the dialog does not appear
again (which is what I want).

When I connect to my site using IE 5, I get a dialog warning me about
the certificate. I can click on "proceed" and everything works
fine. The problem is that I cannot install the certificate in such a
manner as to avoid the certificate question popping up every time I
visit my site. I can "View Certificate" and "Install Certificate" and
IE tells me the certificate import is successful, however, the next
time I visit my site using IE I get the certificate warning message
again.

If you want to try this or view the certificate you can go to:

    https://stat.tamu.edu

I know a self signed certificate can be installed properly using IE
since when I visit the site:

    https://www.math.tamu.edu

I get the same dialog box --- except that I also get a dialog asking
me if I really want to install this certificate into the root store
(just before the "Import Successful" confirmation). I do not get this
final dialog/confirmation window when accessing my server.

What am I doing wrong with my certificate?

Sincerely,

    - henrik
