Download mod_ssl first.
Untar it.
Read the file INSTALL. It has very detailed instructions on what you
need and how to do it. Look near the very bottom of the file for a step
by step for apache + modssl + php3 + MySQL, but read the detailed
instructions first.
You may not have to look at any other documentation.
Make sure you get the right mod_ssl version for your apache version.
