Apache 1.x and 2.x are completely different, so this would never work.
Mod_ssl needs to patch the Apache source directly, so applying it to
any other version than it was intended for will most likely fail (and
as stated above - it will definetely fail with 2.x).
Ralf has said that he is going to wait until the 2.x API has stabilised,
and there is a chance of 2.x being released before porting mod_ssl.
