I had this same problem and the stack trace pointed to mod_ssl. I am not sure
what the problem was, but I recompiled everything (openssl, mod_ssl, mod_perl
(JServ in your case) and apache) and it no longer dumped core.
I originally installed precompiled openssl packages and I think this was my
problem.
