I was trying to build 1.3.12 from source on sparc-solaris8 . gcc-2.95.2

I just found the problem.  I needed to recompile gcc on solaris 8.

I was using gcc and related binaries compiled on solaris 7.  From my
understanding this should work but for some reason wasn't.  Guess I was
wrong.
