Hi Sandy,
mod_rewrite is in the standard distribution - you don't need to download
it. Go back and recompile apache again but before the make, configure
with:
# ./configure --enable-module=ssl --enable-module=rewrite .... (any
other options you use)
when you get a workig httpd binary, check it is installed with
# ./htppd -l which gives a list of compiled in modules.
