Yes, you can use internal (RFC 1918) IP addresses provided that you also
have some form of internal DNS to resolve to actual names. Certain browsers
cannot connect via SSL to an IP address, which is understandable as the SSL
certificate should at least match a domain name.

Obviously, though, this won't be accessible from the Internet, unless you
have a one-to-one relation between internal and real IPs.
