I'm running an apache 1.3.14 webserver inside an IP Masqueraded network. In
order to access it from the outside, I have my firewall forward port 80 to
192.168.1.1 (the webserver). I'm using dhs.org for my hostname
rocketbox.dhs.org, and I've called my webserver timeless.rocketbox.dhs.org
(even though it is behind Masq). I've installed mod_ssl as per the
instructions in the INSTALL file, and am running the secure webserver, but I
can't connect to it from any machines inside or outside my network. I read
the following in the docs:
NOTE: Replace the `<local-host-name>' with the official name of your
host. Do not enter `localhost' here, because this name has to
match
the Common Name (CN) of the Subject's Distinguished Name (DN)
inside your server certificate.
I entered rocketbox.dhs.org as the Common Name, but I don't understand what
the DN is. I thought I'd make sure CN and DN were the same in "make
certificate" but DN never came up.
So I'm wondering if that has do with my hostname setup. I can't connect to
https://rocketbox.dhs.org, but I *can* connect to http://rocketbox.dhs.org .
(you can try 'em out, my server is runnin.) And it might be relevant that I
configured and compiled everything involved (mod_ssl, apache, etc..) as a
user, but installed them as root. I did try https://rocketbox.dhs.org:8443,
with no success.
I'm running Linux 2.2.18, apache 1.3.14, mod_ssl 2.7.1-1.3.14, openssl
0.9.6. If I've forgot something, let me know.
Thanks,
-- Duke.
