Subject: CA Certificate

Hello!

In the process of building a secure website - is there
a way to not purchase a Certificate from a CA
like Verisign - and still have a reasonable amount
of "authenticity" of your public certificates?

Is there a (free?) cheaper version of Verisign's
certificate out there?

The way I understand it, *anyone* can setup the
public server-side certificate - the problem becomes "how do
I know you are really who you say you are??"

Any input appreciated!
Regards,
-Arthur.
