Netscape has a fairly bothersome cache which poses a serious problem when
diagnosing these types of problems. IE on the otherhand has probably the
best cache system for a browser that there is (Although I won't say much for
there browser itself) but anyways you need to set Netscape up not to use
caches period and then every other try delete the entire cache it uses and I
bet you'll find the same error.
Now as for the error I would say that NT is restarting the Apache service..
It will do this to any program when it is running up against the wall on
resources (pretty much resource stavavtion) I had a similar problem with IIS
on a 2000 server.. I uped the swap file size and it resolved it.. So in my
case it was memmory problem. Since then I uped the memmory from 128mb to
512mb's and lowerd the swap back down to 512mb-1,024mb's and haven't had
that problem since then.
Hope that helps... The temp measure is to simple increase your swap so say
you have 128mb's the default swap size is 128-256 up it to 256-512 and that
should resolve it for you then on a weekend when it's slow on your server
install another stick of memmory in it and readjust your swap sizes. Note
that increasing the swap size is only temp measure it does seriously degrade
the overall performance of the server.

Subject: Intermittent "Page cannot be displayed" and "Cannot find error or
DNS error" using mod_ssl and IE 5.5
Anyone know about the following issue or steps towards resolving:
Background:
Implemented SSL using mod_ssl with the Apache HTTP Server and self-signed
certificates.
Server environment: Windows NT Server 4.0, Apache HTTP Server, Oracle 9iAS,
Oracle 9iAS Portal, port 443
Client environment: Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) 5.50, 128 bit
encryption
Problem:
When accessing our Portal website using the IE browser, we get the following
intermittent messages:
"The page cannot be displayed" and "Cannot find server or DNS error".
We know it has noting to do with a DNS error, because the pages can be
accessed using the Netscape browser. Sometimes the page can be accessed by
the IE browser, and at other times we get the error. Occasionally a reload,
refresh, or back and forward, will return the page, and at other times we
get the error. Everything works fine using the Netscape 4.75 browser, we
never et the error. We think it is the problem noted on the FAQ page about
" Why do I get I/O errors with MSIE clients" and made the recommended
change, but it did not work.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. We must use SSL and IE.
