I'll add just my 2 cents to say that a good deal of the controversy was hung up on getting good support for Module::Build into CPAN.pm and CPANPLUS. Between the recent work on CPANPLUS::Dist::Build and the support for configure_requires in both CPAN.pm and CPANPLUS targeted for 5.10.1, I think the controversy will be largely resolved. After 5.10.1, the "official latest Perl" will have full Module::Build support and the only lingering issue is what do to about those who refuse to upgrade their toolchain. That's not a controversy anymore, that's a support issue. -- David
