I've run into this exact problem before. I just made a simple modification
in the Webmail code that said
IF the sender name is empty, put in "email address" .... otherwise use what
is filled in.

Well... Vircom told me the customer has to enter in their name just like
Outlook Express. I said that this answer pretty much stinks. If it's a
"required" field then we should be able to set this in the extended database
and/or the customer should be forced to enter this before they can start
using the system. I was told to submit it as a feature request, so I would
suggest the rest of you do this as well.
