another quick question. from a command line, we
could delete the items in the spool/spam folder. would there be any problem with
that other than the fact that the email would be lost?

only ends up in the spam spool when it can't make it in to quarrantine.
Either a problem with quarrantine/SQL/ModusAdm can prevent that
happening.
As for
trying to get info on the folder try ALT-ENTER to get the properties or use
"dir" in a command shell rather then explorer.
Explorer chokes on folders with large numbers of
files.
