you might consider doing a move of files to a temp folder... just directory move really, and feed them back in bit by bit.

No harm other then the chance of deleting false positives that would have otherwise ended up in quarrantine.

It should recover eventually as long as you don't have over 65k files in there.  If you have over 65k it can have a bit of trouble recovering it seems.

another quick question. from a command line, we could delete the items in the spool/spam folder. would there be any problem with that other than the fact that the email would be lost?

Mail only ends up in the spam spool when it can't make it in to quarrantine.  Either a problem with quarrantine/SQL/ModusAdm can prevent that happening.

As for trying to get info on the folder try ALT-ENTER to get the properties or use "dir" in a command shell rather then explorer.

Explorer chokes on folders with large numbers of files.

yeah, i don't know what really happens in the spam folder. but mine is usually no more than 150 with 2,600 mailboxes. i'm very confused and somewhat concerned, because mail is apparently not being delivered

I just checked on mine, it has 53,000 and is also growing - I don't know what it runs normally.  We are fairly small and don't do that much mail.  What is weird I show nothing in the quarentine.  My sievedata.mdb is only at 37M
