If outbound port 25 is blocked, then that is not our fault. Though I tend to
avoid anything that might result in a tech support call, this is not a
problem we've created: we did not block outbound port 25. And since it
protects the customer's identity, since we have workarounds (web mail) and
since it helps to fight the overall spam problem, I'm certainly willing to
take that tech support call.

You can't do smtp authentication when the outbound smtp port is blocked or
proxied. And while the webmail is a fine application it doesn't allow
integration with a users existing Outlook address book, etc.
