Before you do this, make sure you change:

WSGIProcessGroup %{GLOBAL}

to:

WSGIProcessGroup web2py

You do not what WSGIProcessGroup to be %{GLOBAL}. That is embedded mode. So 
would appear you may have had that wrong all along and why you were using the 
daemon process group you had set up.

Also, processes=1 and threads=1 is a bad choice of configuration as that means 
you can only handle one request at a time.
