Hi Martyn,
Yes I figured it should be painted black but it came having been polished in the past so I`ll just leave it. Probably bring tears of anguish to the purists but it contrasts nucely with all the polished alloy on the engine and the carbs.

The tanks in question are brass, and the E-type one was almost certainly
painted black when the car was new.

This looks very like the expansion tank on the E type I am restoring,
except mine is polished brass.
