Think economics - the present hose has lasted 15 years. The new one should
last the same again. It's worth spending the money and getting the right
item. Six quid a year isn't a crippling addition to the general cost of
service and repair.

I did think about that but the main pipe is crazing on the surface too, it
doesn't show up well on the photos I attached. I could fix the problem that
way for a short while but then I would be in there again because of leaks in
the main pipe.
