Well what a day!!

It started with the hood down but by the time we got to the end of the lane the
hood was up. Avoid the roadworks into Rugeley and see three Rileys heading in
the direction of Lichfield. The only other classic we saw all day was a mog reg
....TEA I believe.
Now Mrs P liked this mog so we were in it rather than the +4. I elected to go
via Wolverhampton instead of picking up the Motorway as I thought there would
be more chance of seeing other classics. First big mistake. Sunday Markets
haven't died a death at least not heading towards Wolverhampton they haven't.
Half an hour to cover a mile or so. I'd already noticed a bit of
vibration/drumming as we set off and Mrs P was now complaining of a headache.
The big bore silencer which I don't like anyway was making a big drone and
there was a general "shake" to the mog all the time. Mrs P not a Happy Bunny by
the time we get to my daughters. Well sorted out lots of jobs for Emma and the
girls nip off into town. This was my opportunity to have a quick look at the
mog.

No weights on any of the wheels. One possible cause of the vibration
hopefully. I have another set I can try today to eliminate wheels and tyres
until I can get this set balanced. I was expecting to find a loose bkt or
similar with the exhaust but nothing. It had bobbins in all the right places as
well. We think it also makes a difference with two in the car as it is
definitely worse two up. I also had a quick look at the engine mountings and it
is difficult to tell if the nearside one was beginning to separate rubber from
steel. I will be checking that out shortly.

Now all this needs to be sorted before next weekend as we are doing the Midland
trials in this mog.

The day continues with a pleasant meal in a pub in Worcester when my daughter
eventually found it! Mobile rings "Dad can you pick me up from Birmingham at
11.30pm" sais Luke who has just had his second week of excellent skiing in
France. He can't get any closer to us by train or coach as it is a Sunday. Well
he could but it would have been 1.30am this morning. Back to Emma's collect up
tools and drive back home to swop to the Freelander and turn around a then
drive to Brum. Nearside front tyre on the Freelander virtually flat. Luckily
the lad's car is full of fuel so after a cup of tea set of for Birmingham.
Surprise surprise there are road works in the middle of Brum but I eventually
find the bus station and we eventually get home at 1.30 this morning.

Now to today's task:

The 4/4 is a zetec engine and presently has a big bore silencer. Any other
owners out there able to indicate if they have similar or not as "standard". I
suspect this is an after market addition and I would like to get it changed.
Who is likely to have an exhaust on the shelf that I can go and pick one up
from or get a guaranteed delivery from as it must be sorted by Friday?

A frustrated,

John P
