Yes, but the source of the serious singe-ing was from the silencer which had
been thrust up against the wood frame beneath the door!

This is from the owner of a car which caught fire isn't it?

Google Exhaust catalysts, and you will eventually arrive at a site with a
Morgan link:

http://www.cats-direct-shop.co.uk/morgan-catalytic-converter.php

At £114.84 +vat apiece it has to be worth considering....

I too have gone through at least 2 sets of heat shields on the catalysts on
my +8 They failed due to the shiels being held on by 2 bolts on the single
strap. A better solution would have been 2 straps. I have abandoned them and
not had any issues in this area with heat affecting the paintwork. The last
pair of shields cost me around £60, or was it £60 each, I can’t remember.
There are other heat shields available which could be fabricated much more
economically, but if you are pursuing originality.........

Chris

My 1999 Hotwire car has now had both shields break away at various times.
Seems like a design fault.

Speaking of catalysts my car is in dire need of a "standard cat" (ie not a
sports special) , I think this is a 400 cell as OEM.

Does anyone know of any sources of such items please, the MMC charge is now
in excess of £600 apiece and I would rather find something a little more
reasonable , even used items considered.

Andy

John

On the+8 the heat shield is over the top of the cat as you'd expect to
protect the wing from excessive heat.

Check the strap carefully as I've repaired one and replaced the other on
mine (and made a replacement for someone else - all on 2000MY cars).

Hi all,

I'm in the process of fitting a new Librands exhaust on my 2000 1.8 zetec
4/4 and on checking the cat it seems to have a heat shield attached to it.
It's wrapped round the cat and held on by a bolted band. The position it is
in doesn't seem to be correct to me. I'd appreciate someone having a look at
there's and letting me know how there's is set up.

Thanks in advance,

John P
