Hi Owen

Very very good website thanks for the url.  Besides the one Margaret refers
to as C. alpina 
we have another about to bloom C. hirsutissima var scotti.  The latter I
assume is a recognized
variety of this species known as the "Scotts hairy clematis". Hirsutissima
occurs from Nebraska into Washington
state. The Flora of North America lists the intergrade  range for Scotti
from Wyoming, Colorado and Utah.
This is C. h.  var scotti   third growing season in my second alpine flower
bed, given late snow
cover this past winter, it  speaks I believe to the  cold hardiness of this
variety.
