My Brothers stepson sells insurance and he advises never, ever accept a
renewal quote.  Go to a competitor (even if in the UK most insurance
companies belong to just a few holding companies, mainly banks) and get a
new customer quote, save the quote and go back to your original company and
ask if they still want the business.  He says he has to re quote 5 or 6
times every day for people who are on to this and the average is around 20%
saving on the renewal and some a significant amount more.

Just renewed my Tin-Top insurance with the same company by doing this, the
renewal was £465 and after getting an alternate quote they renewed with
exactly the same cover 'as your a long standing customer we want to retain
the business' (so why try and hype me in the first place for £285.....£180
saving for 30 min work!
