Yep, found it.
DEP was turned on for all applications ("System" control panel, "Advanced" tab,
"Performance" section, "Settings" button, "Data Execution Prevention" tab,
"Turn on DEP for all..." radio).
Turning off DEP works fine. I've reduced the severity since DEP for all apps is
not the default for the OS.
