It is a long-term project, because there is no easy 2-line hack that will solve the issue. There are large projects to address various kinds of issues, but they will take a long time to be ready (linear-il branch, sgen gc). Am not sure what you mean about "focusing on funny thing", there are many requirements from Mono, and not all of them are improving performance for a particular benchmark or a particular use case.
