According to Miguel, the .NET for Android product from Xamarin will be compatible with Momo for Android. So, in that sense, the WROX book is unaffected. It seems like a perfectly valid investment to buy the book and to learn the Android C# APIs.
The problem is that Mono for Android seems like it has issues that will likely not be addressed by Attachmate. The Xamarin product will not be ready for months. So, while the book and API are still worth investing in, it may not be wise to rely on Mono for Android for near term development. We are stuck waiting for a mature Xamarin Android offering before building products with the Mono for Android API really makes sense. MonoTouch is a lot more mature. It seems like a perfectly valid strategy to use MonoTouch for commercial development today with the expectation of building later versions of those apps using the Xamarin product when it is ready. No need to delay launching products with MonoTouch.
