Tod,

I use vice grips to hold nuts when I'm temporarily unavailable or when my
arms aren't long enough.  It might bop you on the head if it pops loose, but
it won't entangle you.  Take your choice!

A word of warning to those who may be tempted to use this duct-taped
wrench technique:

While laying on my back, slid head first down the quarterberth, I became
entangled in a length of tape.  Had I used as little as a couple more inches
of tape, I might not have had the strength to free myself.  In other words,
I might have been duct-taped under the cockpit permanently.
