support for dynamic pseudo class selectors (like a:link, a:visited and a:active)

Evening all...

Just wondering if this should work at all:
document.getElement("a:active") or $$("a:visited") etc...

if not, how can i find this, is it somehow captured in the styles
collection of properties?
