Agreed, running through an outside proxy server might fill the bill for the OP, barring privacy concerns. With any control over the output, JSON should come from the origin server (JSONP is a last resort IMO). JSON gets little everyday love here because we have robust XML DB support on the back end and the conversion overhead and loss of structure is not worth it. YMMV, but I prefer XML to JSON overall, and despite some strange pronouncements, XML isn't going anywhere as it is the language of the semweb (and of dumb markup too). The day that browsers deemphasize XML parser efficiency/flexibility when X(HT)ML is their core language would be a surprising one.... :) -- S.
