If the idea is to raise as much money as possible for the as-yet-unspecified-charity or charities, then it is obvious that eBay is the way to go -- where you are going to get a lot more people involved than if it is staged on MPB. But we'll be glad to stage if on MPB, if the organizers decide that's the way they want to go. However, I need to make something clear:

Some people are under the impression that I am running, organizing and accepting "donations" for this charity auction. I am not. I believe that in the emotion of the moment, some misconception along this line has developed. While I would participate in such an event in some way, I simply do not have the time and energy right now to be a central organizing and coordinating person.

Also, I have expressed concern if this is really the best way to raise money for a charity. I mean, in the case of poster auctions -- payments through PayPal will result in some of the money being drained off in PayPal fees -- and even more drained off in the form of shipping costs. If it's stage on eBay, I guess they would take some fees (we would not on MPB)... but either way, how efficient a charity poster auction would be as a way of getting money to a charity, I don't know. I suppose the bottom line would be if people donated some really fine posters. But these are things that have to be talked out before anything can happen.

I also know that someone will have to commit to a lot of work, time and effort to handle all the details and be responsible for listing the auctions, getting pictures, writing accurate descriptions and sending out invoices, receiving and processing payments, making sure stuff gets shipped and that the money eventually ends up where it is supposed to.

This is the kind of thing that takes a lot off planning. I'd suggest those who want to be instrumental in such a charity auction get together off-list and set up a committee to organize and structure the event with a realistic time table, including providing enough time to publicize it properly. If there is anyone who has had past experience doing something like this, I'm sure their help would be invaluable. Me, I don't know nuthin' 'bout birthin' no babies, Ms. Scarlett...

Why would this not be on eBay -- where possibly 200,000 TIMES more people would actually see it.

Don't they have a who charity auction section?

Evan.
