I wrote the seller and after a couple of exchanges he finally believed it was a reproduction and said he would pull the auction. He seemed sincere and very disappointed to discover his great poster was repro. Like so many other people, he seems to have been just someone who had not educated himself sufficiently in movie posters and thought that any old movie poster *must* be an "original" simply because it was old. Plus he was confused because he had heard the 22x28 was a valid, standard size for half-sheets. Unfortunately he didn't recognize that the artwork on the poster he had was for the Style B one-sheet from 1939, not one of the half sheets. But he was courteous and seemed genuinely unaware that was a repro. This happens to people a lot, even though there have been websites up for many years -- like LAMP -- which clearly state the standard sizes for posters and offer articles on how to determine originality. Too many people simply don't bother to check -- including the one bidder who had already placed a $1,000 bid on this repro.

I have no doubt that this is a repro, the art was taken from the
original 11x14 mini window card.
