First, thanks for all the good wishes. I really appreciate them.

Now on to Kirby's post...

I *can* allow the listserv to permit attachments, but the reason for the ban
is to help control the spread of viruses/worms, etc. It is dangerous to
assume that everyone subscribed to MoPo is running up-to-date virus
protection software. Permitting attachments could prove disastrous. Over the
last year, my filmfan.com e-mail address has been bombarded with thousands
(and I'm not joking here) of virus-infected e-mails that had to have come
from past or present MoPo subs who had my address in their address books.
One attack sent virus-infected e-mails to my inbox every 60 seconds for more
than 24-hours. What a horrible experience that was.

I receive about 2-3 rejected postings weekly from the listserv that are spam
messages originating from legitimate MoPo subscriber addresses, but probably
sent out without their knowledge. Whether their machines have been
compromised or just their address books stolen (which obviously contain the
MoPo posting address) I'm not sure. But it brings home the potential threat
to all of us.

Plus not everyone has a high-speed internet connection. If you add
attachments/images, etc. it can really slow down the download of a person's
e-mail. Posting a link to an image is not so terrible and then only people
really interested will be downloading that image.

Subject: [MOPO] A wish for MOPO

If I had one wish for MoPo, it would be that we could move it
technologically forward a bit and allow attachments or
html.

Don't you think enough time has gone by so that most people's computers
could handle small files?

This is done at Movie Poster Talk, and I think it's a great thing.
