Of course, the hype machine is starting up on SIN CITY big time. See today's New York Times for an article about the Weinsteins and Robert Rodriguez. Old Uncle Walt is spinning in his grave! I guess that started a long time ago, though.

I don't know if Scarface actually holds the record for the most F***K's in a movie or not. I think it has that reputation because it's such a popular film. However, leave it to Oliver Stone to "write" another screenplay where he just can't contain his love of cursing... example- "Eight Million Ways to Die". In the final scene between Andy Garcia and Jeff Bridges, we lost count at over 80 times the word was used, mainly because it was being said so fast and so many times you couldn't hear them all. I think Hal Ashby must have had the actors improvise and told them, "Oliver really likes F**K - so use it a lot". And that doesn't even include the rest of the film. It really got to the point of annoying.

Hi from Joe Bonelli. I think Phil's right about Scarface being the record holder for using the f-word. In one of his books, the late Tony Randall quotes a Hollywood joke of the time that cited an imaginary press release for Scarface that credits: Screenplay by .......................Oliver Stone Additional "F-U's" by...............David Mamet

Seems like the usual publicity beat-up on this film... KILL BILL VOL 1 so violent, people won't be able to take it... some scenes had to be desaturated to get past the ratings board.... THE PASSION so violent, but real! The "dare" factor of the freak show, whether it's Tarantino or Mel - it's all just marketing however it's dressed up, and however much people pontificate about their justifications.
Mel released a toned-down PASSION for Easter. People preferred to go to church and go home and watch the full-blooded version on DVD. Now if he'd released an unrated version with extra flagellation scenes, more blood sprays and flying chunks of grated calf liver in ya face, not only would have many of the faithful turned out to see it, but the movie violence crowd would have been their in droves.
I've yet to see a film that was marketed because of its "ideas", philosophical content or its challenges to the attitude to the status quo.

blood),most violent ever???
after films like Blade, Star wars episodes (mucho violence, just noTerminator series, Alien series, Predator etc, Raging Bull, Matrixtrilogy, theLOTR trilogy, further back to Wild Bunch, Bonnie & Clyde and countless others... all I have to say is none have any less violence than others today & why be indignant unless I'm going to be indignant about all of it.
Maybe he means "there will gunfire from the opening scene every second until the end shot.. Well I would say that's going to be pretty hard for some.. hilarious to others.
If it isn't done like the first 15 minutes of Saving Private Ryan whereoverloss of life makes you weep as opposed to the Matrix syndrome or "WOW ! look at that.. hey do it again" which makes you wanna be running up the walls firing assault rifles is what makes all the difference..
when I saw Ryan, I was pretty much wide-eyed hoping the 4th Rangers squadron was going to live and when the camera finally started panningdressthe dead laying on the beach and finally when you see the rows of typists sending home letters I almost cried myself. That's the kind of violence that films need more of, but of which is considerably less commercial than shoot-em-ups. (yeah shoot-em-ups like they used to call old westerns... Matrix was just as much of a shoot-em-up)
also you must consider the foreign market which makes up over 60% of a films gross.. if they don't speak english, you have to give them action instead...
ultimately I only hope they're good films and I know I'm not going tomeup in a black trench coat & grab a shotgun & kill people. but that's just
ps: next to most violent is most F**K-ulent. Goodfellas had the word F**K more times than any other film, maybe any other 10 films combined!

Oh, that's right, such films are supposed to be "cathartic" and actually beneficial aren't they?
Silly me. Here I was thinking they were merely pornographic.

For those of you who care, there is an interview with Robert Rodgriguez in this morning's Austin American-Statesman by Chris Garcia. The film was made in Austin in one relatively small room. You can read the interview on the newspaper's website at <http://www.statesman.com>www.statesman.com . You have to register with BELO, the holding company for several newspapers in order to access the article. These articles soon become archived and then you have to pay to access them, so go and print it out today or read online if it interests you.
Apparently one of the most violent films ever, Rodriguez compared it to THE PASSION in that regard. I'm not sure this film will interest me, but it is headed for big box office --- they believe.
