Remakes and films based on TV shows are almost never
instigated by writers. At least not by working professionals.
A lot of want-to-be-professionals pitch this sort of idea all
of the time, not realizing the difficulties involved. But writers
wouldn't have the rights to the property and couldn't be sure
if anyone could get them. They'd be wasting their time.
Remakes and films-from-TV-series come about from the
fevered brains of studio executives who then hire writers to
bring their ideas forth.
