Bruce, I thought you'd signed off of MoPo? Oh that's right, except
for when it suits your purposes to say something. And just as was
obvious over at MPT, where you also signed off quite dramatically,
you still follow every word that's posted here. I don't know, I
always thought that when a person says that they're leaving they
typically, you know, actually leave. However, it's good to know that
we can always still reach you through the forums you've 'left', that
is, when it suits your purposes to be reachable.

In any case, in the spirit of 'setting the record straight', I'd like
to comment on a few of your comments.

I believe that your use of terms like 'Canadian connection' and so on are just an attempt to trivialize the comments Bob made. What on EARTH does Canada have to do with this? I have come to find that there are MANY people who have voiced similar suspicions in private, from across North America as well as Europe, Asia, and Australia.

Where did the Canadian connection come up with this idea?
In this case, it was Jon Warren telling a member of his forum that he knew
FOR SURE that I would be leaving eBay.

That 'forum member' would be me; have you forgotten me so soon? Where's the love?

The Canadian connection took this
FACT and decided the only way he could know FOR SURE that I would be
leaving eBay was that he had made a deal with me to sell through his site,
and they have now widely reported this.

No, that is incorrect. It was I that took Jon's offhand statement and combined it with his recent actions at MPT, which are otherwise difficult to explain in full, and came to the conclusion that there was a reasonably strong possibility that you and Jon were in negotiations to move your operations to ICMP. I also stated this clearly here on MoPo a few days ago. IF TRUE, this would have had clear implications for the future of the MPT forum, and so the question was (and still is) very relevant. I also discussed my suspicions with as many friends who would listen. And most of them don't live in Canada. Neither do I, for that matter.

Of course, none of them bothered to simply ask Jon or myself how he knew
FOR SURE that I would be leaving eBay.

For obvious reasons, I would think. With recent events, a straightforward answer would not be expected from either of you.

I told him I did not yet
want to reveal my plans yet to him or anyone, but that it was 100% I would
do so, and that he could bet any amount of money on it.

That's a strange kind of thing to say, to a friend over the phone. I can't imagine a friend of mine saying something like that without me pressing for more details. Jon Warren's going to place a $5000 bet just on your say-so? And yet you don't trust him enough to be more specific? Hmmm, something doesn't sound right...

OK, for those MoPoers who have bothered to read this far, here's a bit more information (or disinformation, if that's how you choose to read it.)

I was one of those bidders banned from Hershenson's auctions, based
SOLELY on critical comments I've recently made about him here and on
MPT. As background, let me mention that I am generally known as a
high bidder, and have purchased perhaps $30,000 or more in movie
paper through Bruce in the last couple of years. I always paid
immediately, by paypal, and often before Crystal had even invoiced
me. I never had any complaints about his service, and never wished
to return a single piece (although some were not entirely as
described, but that's another story). In short, a model customer, as
Bruce himself described me on several occasions, both on the phone
and by email.

But nonetheless, Hershenson blocked me. Now, one could ask his
consignors to consider the ramifications for them of Bruce taking an
action like that against one of his best buyers, but that's another
other story.

The point is, when I found out that he had blocked me, I was angry.
And so, I acted impulsively and posted a few things to MPT that it
seemed were common knowledge, at least among to the cognoscente. In
retrospect, I acted impulsively, and I shouldn't have done so, as I
did not foresee the subsequent consequences for MPT, which I regret.

However, I still think the problems I described, and that don't need
to be repeated here, probably did occur. Indeed, stories of the
father-in-law and actual booing from the floor during auctions are
legendary. However, I was probably incorrect in that these were NOT
the reasons Hershenson parted company with Christie's. THAT would
likely have had more to do with certain comments he made about Tony
Nourmand and Christie's London, who were apparently starting to do
very well at the time.

Again, this is all OPINION, HEARSAY, GOSSIP, whatever, freely
admitted. (So Scott, you should be safe.) I wasn't there. But I've
spoken with quite a few people who were.

Comments, Bruce? Or have you left the building again?
