I get it. It's a good question. This instance is the same as seeing a
UK dealer asking for a "Breakfast At Tiffanys" and offering to buy at
$5000 and then seeing it sell for 5000 pounds ($9250). With the
ability to see one's inventory online and with Ebay auctions the
flipping of posters has become very transparent. I suspect it could
also be the reason why high-end posters are often advertised without a
price but with a "call for details" notice.
I have no problem with buying low and selling for much higher. I do
wonder though why advertise that you've made a killing. It can only
turn off the buyer who sold low and the seller who bought so high. It
does also alert all of us to try to sell posters at inflated prices
knowing they're going to be "scalped" later. Why not try for a higher
price so that it's not resold days or hours later for more?
I just don't see the benefit in advertising one's costs and mark-ups
unless you're consigning not buying outright. Despite the trend in
aggressively promoting abilities to generate profits sometimes it's
good to have a little mystery going on.

There is nothing different except for one thing. I seem to have
a problem here with interpretation of my question. I find nothing
wrong with buying low and selling high. I find nothing wrong with
David making a fortune if someone decides to sell him an original
Frankenstein one sheet for $100. My point was as follows: If mopo
members, who are all astute (I will give credit here unless proven
otherwise) poster dealers, collectors and poster followers on ebay, who
know that he just made a lot of money selling his poster last week (and
he told them so in his email) why in the world would they sell him the
same title immediately at a low price?
This is a far cry from someone advertising to buy posters at
fixed prices in MCW.
I was implying that if you know a specific title just sold for
big dollars on ebay (even after the auction, which happens a lot) why
not sell it on ebay yourself for big dollars. Why sell it to him?
That is all I asked. A number of collectors understood my point and I
will not name them because I do not want to omit anyone. I hope you
now get my point. If not call me and I will explain over the phone.
Claude
