I try to stay out of political matters, etc. As with anything else this will turn into a political matter. I am hurting for the innocent people as much as anyone, but this was an act of God, or nature if you don't believe. I think that when the reality sets in (and many that are honest have already confirmed), most chose not to leave because they have been through them before and did not think this would happen. I may have been one of them if I lived there, I don't think so, but who knows. This does not mean that I think they deserve what is happening to them, but it is not the Governors, the Mayors, or the President's fault, no political party is to blame.
There are some people who can absolutely and positively can't help their plight, and there are those who choose to let government take care of them. When you CHOOSE (not those that can't help it) to depend on someone take care of you, you usually get what you pay for. We all have to have some responsibility for ourselves and well being. It breaks my heart to see the old people, children, and others go through this nightmare. Unfortunately the thugs will shoot them in the back and be first in line for the aid that will be coming.
There are many more good and helping people, but the thugs and looters make better TV, and of course the squeaky wheel gets the grease.
This is not to say there are not mistakes, but there is no playbook for this matter, and the people in charge are human beings. I don't think there is anyone who would want to trade places with the people in charge of this disaster.
As for Phil's comments about the prick we elected - you have the right to your opinion, that is what WW2 was all about. Perhaps if he had been President at the time we would have been there quicker and saved more lives, but that is all Monday morning quarterbacking as is the other comments. I am not in bed or on the payroll of George Bush, but I will bet anything I have that if he could have done anything to prevent it, I am sure he would, but it can't and could not be done. If John Kerry, Bill & Hillary, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, or Abraham Lincoln were President the results would pretty much be the same, some things are not preventable.
I hope and pray that the good will overcome the bad and the human spirit will come forth in the hurricane area. It looks bleak, but I have faith that it will happen.
Tony
