The ebay ones are getting very sophisticated, but ebay is onto many of them. I get a few "questions for sellers" every week that are asking to buy product for their client, etc., etc.  Ebay usually catches it and sends me off an email warning me that I have been contacted by a non-member and not to do any business with them as I would be in violation of ebay's rules. I usually have deleted the question already anyway. Speaking of the ones from Nigeria, I recently watched a 60 minutes (I believe) and they tracked down people that were sending them. They went all over the world as these schemes are very sophisticated. The deal was there was this lady in Nigeria who husband had been killed by the government and she need to transfer money to a safe American account. She needed a bit of money though to allow her accessibility and operating money to get to her money. So, they followed along. It was quite a sting operation and turned out that many of the originators of these emails were out of Canada. These were companies that were specifically set up to scam people out of there money. Canadian officials were interviewed and they explained just how widespread it is and how they are having such a hard time tracking down the perpetrators even in their own country. By the time they find the address, the guys are gone. While I can't imagine anyone sending these people money, it is a very lucrative business and that is why it is so prolific. I am often amazed at schemes crooks come up with. They often show such a high form of thinking. Too bad they don't direct it in a positive way, but I guess they figure crime pays big bucks.

Is anybody else getting sick of receiving the ones about winning the Irish
or UK lottery or how someone in Nigeria or Bosnia or whatever (it's always
the same basic message only the countries and the names change) wants you to
money launder (because that's basically what they are asking you to do) a
couple of million dollars for them? And then there are the ones about how
someone in Japan wants you to work for their company. The eBay "question
from a member" ones are getting pretty sofisticated.Yes, we have a lot of
people with a lot of free time on their hands and who have no moral
compunctions and like to hurt people. - Bruce
