We've had another week trying to contact eBay winners or prospective
buyers with an ASAQ on AOL addresses, with the usual results.
That is NONE, with even emails sent through eBay getting bounced by AOL.
Maybe AOL users will finally see that there IS A PROBLEM when they start
paying AOL extras for their great service.
The second most frustrating thing about this AOL situation is that AOL
users seem to think that all the people who bring this matter up must be
making it up.
The first is simply trying to contact AOl when one's own provider is on
AOL's rotating list of which ISP to block at any particular time in
their efforts to drive more people to take up an AOL account.
I'm really curious now - why is it that so many AOL users seem to think
people would invent this as a problem?
More and more eBay sellers are having to put AOL disclaimers on their
auctions and listings.
I saw one last week that actually said he was blocking all AOL users
from bidding because he was damned sick of trying to contact AOL users
at end of sale.
It is definitely weird. I see that Andy now can't talk to Tom P. because
Andy's email being is blocked by AOL and so he has to raise a flag on
MOPO to get Tom's attention.
I've had to do that more than once with an AOL user or two here.

Michael,
I just responded to your MOPO question about eBay ads, using my normal email
address and sending it to both MOPO and your [EMAIL PROTECTED] address -- and
AOL bounced it back to me, claiming a "permanent error" and that they aren't
accepting email from my server (atlantis.dnsprotect.com). As you know, you and
I have exchanged private emails in the past, so they used to accept from my
server but no have decided not to -- this is yet another new wrinkle in AOL's
never-ending turf wars with the rest of the internet and the grossly
incompetent management of their so-called "security center."
You might want to get with them about allowing my messages (and all others) to
get through to you and let you be judge of which ones are worth reading. Or,
you might want to consider dumping AOL completely and get a service provider
like Earthlink or your local phone company -- or any other operation that
doesn't continually screw with their customers accounts. Just a suggestion.

I'll usually scan an FA notice quickly and if something catches my eye, =
I'll check it out further. I've found and bought quite a few great =
posters this way. I've also had quite a few people tell me privately =
that they appreciate the notice I send through once a week for the =
sellers on MoviePosterBid.com, listing various examples of their current =
auctions. But I rarely send through more than one FA message per week, I =
don't flood the list practically every day like some people do =
(Rixposters has been the biggest example of this kind of overkill =
lately, but there have been many others in the past). I used to read the =
FA lists from Rixposters and would occasionally be prompted to bid on =
one of his items -- but since he has been posting almost every day =
lately, I've just become numb to them and have just started deleting =
them unread.
I'm always surprised that some people don't realize that while many =
people appreciate being given a notice -- that doesn't mean they won't =
resent being flooded day after day and that such an approach usually =
ends up losing you customers, not gaining them. Given that most auctions =
last 7 days, there's no reason one can't simply post an FA when they =
first go up... then wait until the day before they end and send a =
reminder. Two messages, tops, is all that is needed. Many people get by =
just sending one, a few days before the close, which is when potential =
buyers are likely to be most easily motivated to take a look. Now, of =
course, if you have auctions closing every single day of the week, =
that's your choice and your problem -- but you can't reasonably expect =
people to enjoy seeing your "closing tonight" notices pop up every day =
of the week (or to stay very interested in them).
