Sue,
I agree that most of the FANTASIA posters
(particularly the early ones) concentrated their imagery on emphasizing the
idea of selling this ground-breaking film to the public as familiar
Walt Disney *cartoon* -- which doesn't really work. It took me forever to
find a poster for it that did justice to both the symphonic music and the
animation, but I finally did and now I have a favorite poster to go with one of
my all-time favorite films:

Subject: Re: [MOPO] Ever hated the movie and the posters but loved
the music? Hello Nathalie and all,
Funny but when you first asked the question, James Bond movies
were the first thing that jumped into my head. However, I do like the original
Connery Bond's. Goldfinger and Thunderball are nice posters. Unfortunately, Dr.
No is an awful poster. The red four panel poster from From Russia with Love is
o.k. Actually the foreign movie posters on the early Bond films are really nice
and I don’t normally collect foreign posters. Fantasia was an interesting choice
also. I didn't like it the first time I saw it, but as I have gotten older and
appreciate classical music much more, I do like Fantasia. However, the poster
still leaves a bit to be desired. (By the way it is now hailing outside my
office window here in beautiful southern California)! The spaghetti
westerns are a good example. The music is generally great, but it really takes
me awhile to get into the film.
This is a fun question and one we might follow it up
with is a great movie that has a crappy poster. To Kill a Mockingbird is one
that I wish they had spent a bit more time thinking about the poster. It's such
a beautiful film and such a lousy poster.
Anyway, good topic Nathalie............take care everyone.
